Gold Card Virtual Cocktail & Canapes Event
For obvious reasons there’s been little in the way of events or experiences to review recently. So when I received an email from American Express advertising an online ‘Festive Spirits’ event for Gold Credit Card holders, I decided to give it a try.

What were the ‘Festive Spirits’ event?
Festive Spirits was a collection of 4 online events where, through videos and Zoom webinars, you had the opportunity to mix your own cocktails and make your own canapes at home. All the ingredients required were sent by courier the day before. They were organised by a company called ‘Gastronomous’ and featured a range of brands including Grey Goose, Weald Smokery, Remy Martin and La Fromagerie. ‘Tickets’ were only available to Amex Gold card members and could be purchased from £18 p.p. For this you received ingredients for 3 cocktails and 3 canapes, a menu and information leaflet and access to an online video and live cocktail mixing webinar.

What did I create?
I opted for the Remy Martin cognac and La Fromagerie festive cheese canapes event. I made Old Groendal Rarebit, Form d’Ambert Bon-Bon and Parmesan Crisps, paired with Rémy Fig & Ginger, Pear & Toasted Walnut Old Fashioned and a neat live tasting of Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal.
I’ll let you be the judge or whether they were actually any good, but I gave it my best shot!!
The video for preparing the canapes was created by La Fromagerie and lasted around 20 minutes. I had to pause frequently to keep up, but that is probably a reflection of my cooking skills. The cocktail mixing webinar, hosted by Remy Martin brand ambassador Jack Charlton was engaging and interesting. I think he did a great job of presenting, answering questions and providing clear information.

Was it worthwhile?
In times where entertainment is limited, it provided something to look forward to and I definitely learnt a few new things!
It may not seem like a massive quantity of ingredients for the money (the image at the top of the article is ingredients for 2 people), however they were good quality ingredients and they were delivered on time and well packed (despite an initial mix up where the courier confirmed delivery for a day after the event!). Information was clear and I think the package as a whole provided value for money – I’ll certainly be making the Remy fig and ginger again and have a new appreciation for cognac!
