Review: AC Hotel Innsbruck- A Room with a View
During my recent trip to Austria, I made a short visit to the AC Hotel, Innsbruck. This was prior to a visit to Grand Tirolia, Kitzbuhel (find the review for that one here).

I was in Austria for a ski trip and we flew in to Innsbruck, for a quick city visit, before taking the train to Kitzbuhel to hit the slopes.
Points Cost
I was able to book a large room with two queen size beds for one night for 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy points. I transferred 10,000 American Express Membership Reward points at a rate of 2:3 to do this.

It’s noteworthy that this means that the AC Hotel Innsbruck is bookable with the Amex Gold Card 10,000 points spend bonus. It’s a decent value redemption too, as cash rates can be £100+ per night, which means you’d be getting approximately 1p per Amex point if you used them in this way.
Room
I’d booked a double queen room for myself and my two sons, at the same price as a standard double. In any other hotel this would have been a perfectly acceptable room, but in Innsbruck the view made the room particularly noteworthy.

Innsbruck’s location, in the Inn valley, means that it is surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery. The height of the AC Hotel building means that the majority of rooms in the building will provide spectacular views across the city and off into the mountains. I managed to capture the photograph below from the hotel room window as the sun set.

The room was comfortable, with all expected amenities. There was sufficient space, even with two queen beds, and the room was finished to a decent standard. The bathroom had a large bath and a shower.
From exploring the hotel, and a bit of online research, it’s apparent that the building was built for the 1972 Winter Olympics, and fully refurbished in recent years. It’s a fairly unimpressive building from outside, aside from its height in the Innsbruck skyline, but inside it has a high end feel.

Service
The level of service was good. The desk team were polite and helpful, and speed of service in the bar and restaurant was good. The lobby includes some attractive seating spaces, and has table games, such as chess, available for guests.

It took slightly longer than I’d hope to check out. It seemed that we chose a busy moment to leave, however there was no express check out and the wait left us rushing to catch a train to Kitzbuhel. It’s worth mentioning that the AC Hotel is well located for Innsbruck station – this is walkable in about 5 minutes.
Breakfast
Breakfast at AC Hotel Innsbruck was very good. There was a good selection of options set out across the bar area and drinks service at the table. At €16 (€20 if you don’t pre-book at reception) it was relatively expensive, but the standard was probably in keeping with that.
Summary
If you’re looking for an interesting city break, then I’d highly recommend Innsbruck and the AC Hotel. At 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night (10,000 Amex points) I think this is a very good deal. The views alone make a high floor room in this hotel preferable to staying elsewhere in the city.
A 4 star hotel, with very good TripAdvisor ratings, this is a well organised and attractive hotel.
