It’s December… so they’re back!

In recent years, daily social media competitions have become the standard promotional tool for a host of companies during advent. With some travel companies offering daily opportunities to win anything from a neck warmer to flights and holidays*, it can be worth taking a minute to enter each day. Here are my top three travel advent calendars for December 2019.

*Sadly I speak with experience as a winner of the least exciting those. Last year I won the mystery prize from an outdoor adventure travel agent. As I built up my hopes for a ski break, a plain black neck warmer arrived in the post!!

Which advent competitions might be worth a shot this year?

1. Inside Flyer

We like the look of some the prizes so far over at fellow points and travel blog Inside Flyer. We also imagine that the odds of winning something are a lot higher than for some big companies. With 5,000 followers across Facebook and Twitter, it’s unlikely 10,000’s of people will be entering each day.

2. Brightsun Travel

This was one of our favourites last year. Sponsored by a host of top travel names including Etihad, Virgin and BA, this one is packed full of top prizes including flights, spa days and football tickets for Man City vs Liverpool. With 13,000 Facebook followers the odds might be a bit longer, but there are some high value prizes in there.

3. Jet2Holidays

We like this for two reasons. Firstly there are no small prizes, today’s prize is a 7 night holiday for two in Sorrento. Secondly, the ‘Window Wanderland’ competition animation is pretty smart. Enter your email and click to board the plane, before opening your window blind to find out if you’ve won!

Your odds are likely significantly longer than the other two here, but it’s worth a shot…

Travel competitions are always worth a shot. I tend to enter quite a few and have had some good success – whilst my neck warmer wasn’t that exciting I’ve won plenty of event tickets and flights to Switzerland (see here) in the last few years.

It would be great to see one of the big points schemes introduce an advent competition in future years. We’ve seen a daily points competitions from Marriott Bonvoy in the past – would be good to see something similar in the build up to Christmas from British Airways, Hilton, Marrriott, Nectar or American Express.
