Amex Hilton Honors Offer

If you have an American Express Membership Rewards account, you may have received an email today highlighting an additional 50% bonus for points transfers to Hilton Honors. We have received it across multiple accounts, however it is possible that these have been targeted (they are all accounts with previous Hilton transfer activity). This is the first enhanced transfer rate I’ve seen for quite a while.

The standard transfer rate is 2 Hilton Honors points for every 1 American Express Membership Rewards Point. Between now and 31st October this will increase to 3 Hilton Points for every 1 American Express Membership Rewards Point.

Is it a Good Offer?

Hilton Honors points are generally valued at around 0.33p per point. It’s possible to get better than this, either by identifying individual redemptions with better rates or by booking a stat of 5 nights or more on points, which will get you the 5th night free (see here).

At 0.33p per point, you’re getting 1p per Amex point. Use that on a 5 night stay and you’ll increase that to 1.25p per Amex point – find a hotel or date with a better price which works out better than 0.33p per Hilton point and potentially you could increase that further.

Generally anything which gets you 1p+ per Amex point is decent value, so it’s definitely worth considering. If you know that you’ll definitely be booking Hilton stays, then it may be worth considering speculatively transferring points for later. I will certainly be transferring at least some points to benefit from this offer.

It means the 10,000 Amex Gold bonus would get you 30,000 Hilton Honors points, which should be worth £100+, as per the example below:

Note that the T&C’s say that the additional bonus points may take up to 8 weeks to post – so expect these to arrive separately to your standard points and keep in mind that they might not be available for an immediate redemption.
