Free Flights for Everyday Spending and Fee Free Travel Money
This week we showed you how to earn at least £125 of Nectar Points to spend on flights via Expedia by spending £2,000 in 3 months (here). If that wasn’t good enough, we then showed you how to avoid fees, and even earn rewards, on your travel money (here). Here’s a quick recap:
1) If you apply for the Nectar American Express Credit Card it pays 2 Nectar points per £ spent, plus a 20,000 Nectar point bonus for spending £2,000 in 3 months. In addition there is 1,000 point bonus if you use this referral link (scroll down to credit cards). For a £2,000 spend that’s 20,000 bonus points plus 4,000 for normal spend, plus 1,000 bonus points. The points are worth 0.5 p each, which makes 25,000 points worth £125, just for normal spending. Nectar points can then be converted to Expedia Vouchers at the same value, and used against return flights including taxes. So in theory, you could easily get an EasyJet return ticket for a weekend in Amsterdam, Edinburgh or another short distance destination, as a reward for your everyday spending (see Expedia screenshot below for Bristol to Amsterdam).
N.B. There are cards with higher welcome bonuses (most notably Amex Gold, see here) but for points you can use flexibly against budget flights, I think this is a very good option.
2) We also highlighted two, fee free, currency exchange options. The Curve Card, which allows you to link your rewards credit cards, but effectively removes the FX for spending abroad by converting before charging the transaction. And Circle Pay, money sending app (similar to PayPal), which does not charge fees for sending money to friends in different currencies. Both options use the mid market rate.
If that’s not good enough, both also offer a free £5 credit (after your first transaction, by using the following codes:
Curve Card O2MEP
Circle Pay OETUGJ
So go ahead – earn your free flights, and spend your free money somewhere exciting!!
